The meeting – organized in the context of a broader event, the National Education Conference – stirred meaningful discussions concerning Romania’s commitments regarding the Bologna Process and future actions at national / institutional level deriving from these.
In the beginning, the general director of UEFISCDI, Adrian Curaj, gave a brief description of the “Higher Education Evidence Based Policy Making: a necessary premise for progress in Romania” project. The presentation emphasized the general project objectives, such as increasing the institutional capacity at national / university level, improving the efficiency of the data collection system for higher education, elaborating higher education analyses for future public policies.
Various experts involved in the specific project activity on Romania’s commitments in the EHEA shared their experiences on this topic. Thus, Mihai Korka expanded on student centered learning, while Ligia Deca highlighted the social dimension of higher education and recognition of prior learning.
Others people present in the meeting joined the discussions, outlining the relevance that an analysis on Romanian’s commitments in the EHEA poses, in order to underpin future public policies in higher education.

The third Mutual Learning Workshop on Romania’s commitments as an EHEA member state and their impact on higher education financing was organized within the framework of project activity 7.7.
The event took place on 22 – 23 March 2013, bringing together former Romanian Bologna Follow-Up Group (BFUG) representatives and members of the 2010 – 2012 BFUG Secretariat, hosted by Romania.
The meeting started with a brief presentation on the topic and the background materials from Ligia Deca, coordinator of Module IV, and Liviu Matei, coordinator of the study on Romania’s commitments in the EHEA. The two outlined the importance of such meetings for the elaboration of a comprehensive study designed to assist the policy makers in their decision making process. Further on, Cristina Fit described the main elements of the analysis on internationalization of education and mobility, with an emphasis on national measures.
The experts present in the meeting debated the Bologna Process Ministerial Communiqués, in order to come up with proposals of recommendations to fully implement them at national level. Thus, the measures taken so far by specialized institutions were outlines, as well as future actions to increase the attractiveness of Romanian universities at global level. Issues like student and staff mobility, incoming versus outgoing mobility or the 2012 EHEA Mobility Strategy have also been approached.
The second day of the Mutual Learning Workshop stemmed new debates amongst the experts on the given topic, but also on the structure and content of the mobility and internationalization chapter. The experts agreed to continue the discussions in the future, in order to finalize the general study on Romania’s commitments in the EHEA.
